Asticus Building
The Asticus Building located above St James Park Station is a project that we are extremely proud of and the first project of its kind in the UK. What started off as a design and build Cat-A installation on the 3 floors, grew into a full MEP service installation across 14 floors including the Ground Floor and Basement.
What makes the project unique is that the top two floors of the building were cut out and separated from the rest of the building and were then hydraulically jacked up 3.6m to accommodate the installation of an additional floor to be slotted in. At the start of the project Leonari provided the mechanical and electrical engineering solution to allow the building to be lifted whilst keeping the services going as normal as the building was tenanted.
The lifting of the building meant that some of the lower floors (Levels 5, 6 & 7) had to be braced by a 2m square grid of steel propping. This did not stop our installation from progressing, and to our client’s surprise, we successfully coordinated our services to account for temporary props which allowed the install to commence ahead of programme.
Our MEP installation consisted of new VRF systems; new life safety system including sprinklers, smoke extract, dry risers and fire alarm; new supply and extract ductwork ventilation systems throughout the building; new electrical infrastructure to each of the floors; new office and feature lighting including lighting controls throughout; domestic and public health services to the new toilet core and new BMS system.
